Toyota Earns Most Respected Company Accolade for Leadership, Performance

International automaker Toyota, currently celebrating its 50th year in the U.S., has won the highest reputation ranking in Reputation Institute’s Global Pulse 2008, their third annual survey measuring consumer perception of the world’s largest corporations.

The Global Pulse 2008 study measures the overall respect, trust, esteem, admiration and good feelings consumers hold towards the largest 600 companies in the world. Toyota was selected for Governance, Products/Services, Leadership and Performance. Toyota was the only automaker in the top tier of results, with Volvo Bilar ranking 30th.

Rounding out the top five were Google, Ikea, Ferrero, and Johnson & Johnson. Consumer and tech product companies enjoy the best reputations followed by pharmaceutical companies, conglomerates, raw material manufacturers and airlines.

“Of the top 200 companies measured in 27 countries, all earned Global Pulse scores significantly above the global mean of 64.2,” says Kasper Nielsen, Managing Partner of Reputation Institute (RI) a global, private advisory firm specializing in corporate reputation management.

To bolster positive consumer perception and attract top talent to their company, Toyota’s recruiting model revolves around “kaizen,” or continuous improvement of business practices. They place heavy emphasis on diversity recruiting, flexible work schedules, and ongoing training in the workplace.
