There are many great hospitals in the San Antonio area, but if you’re a nurse specializing in ear, nose and throat care, there are a few hospitals that stand out above the rest. These hospitals were ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

The three hospitals include:

  1. Santa Rosa Hospital – This religiously operated hospital is run by CHRISTUS Health and accredited by the Joint Commission. The hospital sees an average of: 24,943 admissions; 275,141 outpatient visits; 138,105 emergency room visits; 6,577 inpatient surgeries; and 2,937 births.   2. University Hospital – This 377-bed teaching hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission. The facility employs 35 full-time and 12 part-time physicians and dentists; 900 full-time and 325 part-time registered nurses; and 233 full-time and 18 part-time licensed vocational nurses. The hospital sees an average of: 20,625 admissions; 1.54 million outpatient visits; 64,227 emergency room visits; 9,761 inpatient surgeries; and 2,819 births. About 64 percent of patients said they would recommend University Hospital to friends and family.
  3. Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital – This 1,447-bed hospital is operated by the Hospital Corporation of America and accredited by the Joint Commission. The facility employs 2,006 full-time and 327 part-time registered nurses and 211 full-time and 37 part-time licensed vocational nurses. The hospital sees an average of: 70,339 admissions; 410,506 outpatient visits; 225,679 emergency room visits; 32,283 inpatient surgeries; and 10,391 births. About 62 percent of patients said they would recommend Southwest Texas Methodist to family and friends.
