Denver Nursing Jobs Supported by Program Insuring Children

A statewide program that helps children access healthcare is continuing to support Denver nursing jobs.

Colorado leaders recently celebrated a milestone of the All Kids Covered initiative, a coalition of organizations working to improve healthcare for children throughout the state. The program has provided health coverage to more than 100,000 children since current Gov. Bill Ritter took office in 2007.

This is great news for Colorado’s medical industry, as the more people there are receiving healthcare means there are more healthcare workers employed to provide those services.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Colorado’s education and health services industry employed 262,500 workers during June alone, with 139,900 of those in the Denver area. Learn more with this nurse job description.

“By strengthening health coverage for children, we are doing the right thing for our youngest citizens and for Colorado,” Ritter said. “We still have more work to do. We need to make it as easy for children in Colorado to get health insurance as it is for them to check out a library book.”

The Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing has ensured health coverage for nearly 83,000 children through Medicaid and almost 23,000 children through CHP+ since January 2007, resulting in a total of 106,000 children receiving the care they need.

“Unlike many health problems facing kids in our country today, a lack of coverage is something we can collectively solve,” HCPF Executive Director Joan Henneberry said . “We are making real progress. It’s time to finish the job.”

In spite of these significant achievements in Colorado, many children throughout the state remain uninsured, so state leaders and organizations are working to bridge the gap. The Colorado Children’s Campaign, Colorado Covering Kids and Families, and Metro Organizations for People are all involved with All Kids Covered.

Providing health coverage helps ensure our kids have the opportunity to grow into healthy adults, who live, work and thrive in every Colorado community,” Gretchen Hammer, executive director of the All Kids Covered partner Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved, said. “We are grateful for Governor Ritter’s leadership and the tireless efforts of his administration, and know it does not compare to the peace of mind felt by the families of the over 100,000 kids who have been able to access care as a result.”
