Jobs in Seattle Saved by Union Agreements

A new agreement between the city and its unions could help save thousands of jobs in Seattle.

The City of Seattle has reached an agreement with the Coalition of City Unions that will ultimately save taxpayer money and prevent unnecessary layoffs. The new agreement will allow both parties to open previously closed agreements that could positively affect 6,000 city workers when ratified.

Under the agreement, union employees will accept a .6 percent cost of living increase beginning in January 2011, which is lower than the 2 percent minimum increase. The agreement also extends labor contracts through December 2013 and allows for wage increases in 2012 and 2013.

Mavericks in Education Florida recently announced that the company will open a Mavericks High School in Broward County this year. The tuition-free school will operated as part of the Broward County Public Schools system and marks the fifth Mavericks High School in Florida.

St Louis Teaching Jobs Could Depend on Federal Legislation
